Temporary Galleries - British Museum – Michelangelo: Closer to the Master

In early 2006, the British Museum staged an extraordinary exhibition of Michelangelo’s sketches, allowing visitors to inspect these fragile works close at hand.  Working with Metaphor, DHA Designs were challenged to light these to allow visitors unparalleled closeness to the sketches without damaging them with light.  Using fibre optic technology and careful ambient lighting, DHA Designs created a deceptively bright environment in which to appreciate this unique collection.

This was one of the most challenging artwork exhibitions for the lighting designer, as these pieces – often double-sided and taken from sketchbooks – were not created to be displayed.  DHA worked to integrate concealed fibre optic lightbars to all bespoke lecterns to allow all of these stunning drawings to be viewed from both sides
